About this service
How much does the grant pay, and for what?
Since March 17, 2026, the Quebec government's aid for charging stations has been part of the Écorecharge program: $600 toward buying a home charger, not toward installing it.
If you read "Roulez vert" elsewhere, that is the program this aid used to sit in: the conditions have changed, notably the requirement for a connected charger since April 1, 2026. This page summarizes the rules published on quebec.ca and in the Écorecharge normative framework, checked on November 3, 2026. According to section 2.3 of the framework, the program will end on March 31, 2028. It must be in force when you apply: check quebec.ca before you buy.
Who can apply? The owner of an electric vehicle, or its long-term lessee: a fully electric car, a plug-in hybrid or an electric motorcycle, new or used. The building must be in Quebec and have one or two dwellings, mainly residential: a detached house, row house, semi-detached house or duplex, main or secondary residence (one per application). Invoices must be in the applicant's name. In a triplex, a quadruplex or another multi-unit building, the request goes through a different Écorecharge stream, the individual charger in multi-unit housing, which can reach $5,000 for the purchase and installation. The applicant cannot be represented to submit and process the application (normative framework, section 5.1.1): you submit it yourself, not your installer.
01 · Key step
What the charger must meet to qualify
The charger must meet five conditions published by the government. It must be connected: since April 1, 2026, only so-called smart chargers, which receive and process remote commands through a mobile or web app, qualify. It must appear on the program's list of eligible models, to check before you buy: if the model is not on it, the grant cannot be claimed. It must be new, since a used charger or one used as a demo unit does not qualify. It must be Level 2, meaning designed for 208 or 240 volts alternating current. And it must be bought from a Canadian retailer; for an online purchase, the website must be Canadian or Quebec-based. The date on the purchase or lease invoice is the reference, and a lease must rest on a valid contract of at least 36 months.

02 · Key step
The amount, the threshold and what the $600 does not cover
The amount is a flat $600. To receive it, the applicant must spend at least $600, before applicable taxes, on buying or leasing the charger (normative framework, section 5.1.5). The "Borne de recharge à domicile" page on quebec.ca words the threshold differently: the charger's acquisition cost must be "supérieur à 600 $" (above $600) before taxes. The framework also states that meeting the criteria does not guarantee payment of the aid. The grant applies to the cost of the charger itself. The government excludes delivery fees, accessories (mounts, adapters, covers, anti-theft devices), spare parts, operating costs, extended warranties, GST and QST, and installation costs, including pedestals and electrical work: wiring, cable burial, panel changes or additions, new outlets. If a dealer, automaker, manufacturer or municipality paid part of the cost, eligibility may be affected: the invoice must show the price actually paid and any discount, and a charger obtained free through a rewards program is not eligible.

03 · Key step
The steps, from purchase to application
In order: check the model on the official list, then buy it from a Canadian retailer, with an invoice in your name. Then have the charger installed by an electrical contractor holding a Régie du bâtiment du Québec licence: in Quebec, electrical work must be done by such a contractor. To prove the installation, you provide the invoice for the work or, if a compliant 240-volt outlet already existed and you needed no electrician, photos showing the charger and the outside of the house, with the address visible. Finally, once the charger is installed at your home and you have the vehicle, submit the application yourself online on quebec.ca, with the invoices and the VIN. Each application is tied to a single vehicle (VIN and plate), and only one charger can receive aid per vehicle. You can have the charger installed before you acquire the vehicle, but you must own it when you apply. The government sets no maximum delay between acquiring the vehicle and applying and advises applying as soon as you are eligible, so you do not lose your invoices.

04 · Key step
Before you buy, have your installation checked
The $600 lowers the price of the charger, not that of the work, which depends on the distance between your panel and the chosen spot, your panel's capacity and the model. C-Cure Électrique, RBQ master electrician 5755-2234-01, installs Level 2 chargers (240 V, 30 A to 50 A) on Montreal's South Shore, whether or not you have already bought your charger, and assesses your panel for free before you pick a model. Once the work is done, we hand you the installation invoice, which serves as proof for your application. You submit the application yourself online.
